Governor Wes Moore Appoints Two New Commissioners to the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission

 Governor Wes Moore Appoints Commissioners James K. MacAlister
and Stephane P. Romano

        Commissioner MacAlister earned his Juris Doctor from the
University of Baltimore in 1984. He began his career as an appellate clerk to
the Honorable William H. Adkins, II, subsequently working to represent
insurance companies and corporate clients. In 1990 Commissioner MacAlister began
representing plaintiffs in court proceedings at the state and federal level and
injured workers in proceedings at the Maryland Workers’ Compensation
Commission. He has devoted over thirty years to workers’ compensation. Commissioner
MacAlister was a member of the Maryland Association for Justice for twenty-five
years, where he engaged in advocacy surrounding efforts to reshape Maryland’s
workers’ compensation law.

        Commissioner Romano earned her Juris Doctor from the University
of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2015. She began her legal career
as an associate attorney at Antezana & Antezana, LLC in the Workers’
Compensation department and rose to senior counsel. Commissioner Romano is fluent
in Spanish and Portuguese and has used her skills to bridge language barriers, ensure
equitable access to justice, and advocate for underserved communities. She has nine
years of experience representing injured workers across Maryland and Virginia
and over fourteen years of experience in the workers’ compensation field.
